  • Postojna Caves: A top tourist site in Slovenia, this approximately 15-mile-long karst cave system has been explored by humans as early as the 13th century. During World War II, Germans used the caves to store aircraft fuel, which eventually caused a fire that lasted seven days.
  • Diocletian’s Palace: Located in Split, the impressive architecture of this UNESCO World Heritage Site was described by Lonely Planet as “one of the most imposing Roman ruins in existence.”
